ATHLETICS: A TRIO of Croydon Harriers' young athletes picked up wins on the opening fixture of the Surrey cross-country league at Lightwater Park in Woking last weekend writes Matthew Kiernan.

Peter Chambers (U17 men), Holly Haile (U15 girls) and Omar Harhara all notched victories in their age groups, with Chambers enjoying his league win just hours after triumphing in the Surrey schools league in the morning for Trinity school.

THIS Sunday sees the return of the annual Lexus Croydon 10K, with over 500 runners currently entered.

Large contingents from the town's home clubs Croydon Harriers and Striders of Croydon are expected to line the start, with Paskar Owor (Belgrave), David White (Croydon Harriers) and Lee Flanagan (Striders of Croydon) expected to feature at the front of the field.

Whitgift and Trinity School will go head to head in the corporate race, and there is also an open 3km race for 9-14 year-olds.

The race starts at 10.15am at Lloyd Park Avenue, and race entries are available on the day.
