A FORMER soldier and policeman from Woking is among the candidates vying for the new police and crime commissioner job.

Robert Shatwell, who served for 13 years with the British Army, Royal Horse Guards, is one of six people standing for election for the Surrey Police area on Thursday November 15.

Mr Shatwell, of Lime Grove, Woking, also served for 18 years as a policeman.

He said: "'I believe the concerns and safety of the residents come first and I will fight hard for more resources, particularly bobbies on the beat, which I know from years of experience, works best of all. I will fight for more funding and better use of that funding through the police budget."

Details of other candidates standing for election can be found here.
