Let's take a quick trip down Memory Lane with some of the oldest Woking facts!

Early days - Woking has appeared in written material since the 12th century and appeared in the Doomsday book of 1086 - at this stage Woking had a complex description as it was held as three separate estates. The owners were King William the Conqueror, Walter Fitzother and the then Bishop of Exeter.
17th century - In 1651, the Wey Navigation Canal was opened for traffic from Guildford to the River Thames passing though Woking. Several canal and waterways later opened making Woking an important stop off.
1800's - The first major buildings were constructed and opened, including the Albion Hotel, the Police Station, Woking Mosque and the Victoria Hospital.
