Mid-way through the Summer is a good time to share our thoughts and ideas about the top 10 Summer Gems in Woking and the surrounding areas. My personal favourites are listed below with a short reason why they have made my top 10.

1) RHS Wisley

I love being outdoors and gardening. RHS always have loads of fun and factual events going on, especially during the Summer. It wonderful to escape the town to their gorgeous and peaceful gardens. Well done Wisley!!

2) The Lightbox

The Lightbox never disappoint with the diversity and presentation of exhibitions. They keep up-to-date with the big names, and also never forget local artists!

3) Ambassadors theatre

I love the theatre, and the Ambassadors is amazing for a local theatre, with some big famous shows as well as smaller local productions.

4) The Bandstand

An obscure one I know, but I think the Bandstand is one of the centrepieces of Woking town centre. When it is not in use it is used by local people as a meeting point and place to gather out of the elements. In the summer and at special times of the year the bandstand is also used for public performances by a variety of performers to the delight of local people.

5) Woking Park

A lovely escape from the town centre with a good range of activities and peace and quiet!

6) Pool in the Park

Important on the list for us sports lovers. I love swimming here; it’s a great location and has a perfect combination of fun and serious exercise.

7) The Peacocks shopping centre

Of course, shopping has to be on my list. Plenty of excellent shops reasonably priced parking and always clean and helpful staff.

8) Wisley and Ockham Common

This is a fantastic local bike ride for the summer months. A leisurely cycle along the river and through the woods - perfect!

9) Painshill Park

A little way outside of Woking yes, but still classed as 'local' and still makes my list. Much the same as Wisley, Painshill is an interesting and fascinating day out.

10) Thorpe Park and Chessington World of Adventures

I couldn't decide between these two. Fact is they are both local and both an extremely good fun day out!

What do you think of my top 10? What would your top 10 local gems be?
