A WOMAN was sexually assaulted while walking home from a night out with friends in Woking.
-
The attacker struck in Walton Road, Woking, on Thursday night.
The incident took place in Walton Road close to the junction with Grove Road at around 11pm on Thursday (October 25).
The victim, who is a local woman, was walking by herself down Chertsey Road when she was approached by a man who engaged her in conversation for a short period.
The woman then began walking down Walton Road when the man she had just been speaking to approached her from behind and sexually assaulted her.
The suspect is described as an Asian man in his early twenties, between 5ft 6ins and 5ft 7ins tall, slim build, with short black spiky hair and had a mole under his left eye.
He was wearing a grey hooded top, blue jeans and was carrying a rucksack.
Police searched the area but the man has not yet been traced.
Detective constable Jade Withington-Hunt, who is leading the investigation, said: "This was an extremely concerning incident where a young woman who was returning home alone after a night out with friends has been assaulted.
"This was a targeted attack where the suspect has spoken to the victim and followed her for a short distance before assaulting her in the street.
"The victim is understandably extremely upset by what must have been a very frightening attack and we are doing everything possible to track down the man responsible.
"The suspect is clearly a desperate individual who was prepared to take risks by assaulting the woman in such a public place."
Anyone who witnessed the incident, recognises the description of the suspect or with any information should call Surrey Police on 101, quoting reference WK/12/6487, or call independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
