Woking cafe owner Graeme Alighieri who owns the family run Caffe Centrale in Church Path has registered concern about the long term effect the removal of parking under the notorious town canopy is having on businesses such as his. 'Since those short term parking spaces were removed we have noticed it has affected our business as we used to get a great deal of early morning trade from people popping out for a quick breakfast who found those spaces convenient, it would help businesses if the council could introduce more half hour parking spaces.' The traders outside the station and along Church Path have said that many people want to make quick visits to town thereby helping the local economy greatly and keeping the whole town vibrant rather than just the two shopping centres. It seems with the news that the Wolsey Place shopping centre is now also being redeveloped businesses elsewhere in the town are feeling overlooked and unsupported, and, with many of them being local and family owned it does beg the question about whether they are getting the support they need when even the large chains in the high street are struggling. Is there something that can be done to support these traders? 'We're just looking for some positive moves to support us' says Graeme. What initiatives could we do to ensure the town maintains the identity of it's resident businesses?
