STAFF at a Woking pub raised a glass after their drinking den won a best bar prize in a regional contest.
The Sovereigns has won a best pub award
The Sovereigns, in Guildford Road, was presented with the Miller Brands Overall Best Bar None and Best Pub plaques on Tuesday (August 28).
Landlord Chris Kelly said: "We are absolutely delighted. The award recognises the hard work that all our members of staff have put in over a long period of time.
The pub was among several premises in Woking that reached a 'gold' standard in an assessment on pub safety and responsibility.
Venues that signed up to the scheme were visited by licensing officers from Woking Borough Council, Surrey Police, Surrey Fire and Rescue and Surrey Trading Standards to assess how well they met current licensing and trading laws.
Those meeting the Best Bar None criteria were accredited to the scheme and now display a gold, silver or bronze sticker in their premises' window.
Councillor Carl Thomson, Woking Borough Council's portfolio holder for licensing, said: "I would like to congratulate all the worthy winners, especially The Sovereigns pub.
"The winning licensed premises have shown that they have met and excelled the Best Bar None assessment criteria.
"Premises displaying their winning gold plaques and those displaying gold, silver or bronze window stickers, let customers know they have met the highest standards."
