A SECOND meeting to discuss plans for a gypsy site in West Byfleet is to be held to allow more residents to have their say.

Nearly 1,000 residents packed Byfleet Village Hall on Monday (February 11) for talks on the Murray Lane proposals.

Many people had to be turned away while others were forced to listen to the meeting from the venue's car park because the venue was filled to capacity.

The Byfleet, West Byfleet and Pyford Residents Association will stage a second meeting on Monday (February 18) at 7.30pm for 8pm.

The meetings follow a planning application - PLAN/2013/0016 - for four pitches for an extended Romani Gypsy family on agricultural land south of Murrays Lane.

More than 500 letters of representation have so far been submitted to Woking Borough Council by residents objecting to the proposals.

A message posted on the residents' association website - - said: "We would like to thank everyone who came to last Monday's meeting.

"Almost 1,000 local residents come to the meeting which shows the strength of feeling.

We apologise to everyone who could not get in the hall, we were simply overwhelmed by the amazing response and have a second meeting - next Monday, same time, same place.

"Note - if you have a ticket and don't need it please let us know.

"The purpose of these meetings is to make residents aware of the proposed developments in Murrays Lane, determine their views and make local councillors aware of those views.

"It is now very clear that most residents do oppose the developments and well over 500 residents have taken the time and effort to record their objections with Woking Borough Council - a totally unprecedented level of reaction to any planning development."

Call Byfleet Village Hall on 01932 336236 or 07980 974577 or contact the residents' association on for tickets.
