TWO brothers who stole poppy collection tins from a bank and supermarket in Woking have been jailed.
Jason Smith, 35, and Daniel Smith, 30, of Kinsnympton Park, Kingston, were jailed for 45 months and 20 months respectively at Kingston Crown Court on October 18.
The pair stole eight poppy tins from banks and shops, including from a Sainsbury's supermarket and HMV in Walton-on-Thames on November 8.
On November 9, they stole Royal British Legion tins from another Sainsbury's supermarket and from a Lloyds TSB branch in Woking.
The brothers also stole poppy collection tins in Epsom.
Detective Inspector Oana King said: "Police and the courts take a dim view on those who steal from charities for their own gains. As this year's poppy appeal gets underway, I want to make it clear that we will not tolerate the theft of Royal British Legion charity tins or any other charity boxes and will relentlessly pursue anyone identified as being involved in such thefts."
