Police in Woking have carried out a successful operation aimed at targeting and educating motorists driving in an anti-social manner.
The latest activity is part of the ongoing Drive SMART campaign by Surrey Police and Surrey County Council to target motorists who drive anti-socially on the county's roads.
The day of action took place in Heathside Road, Woking, on Thursday, 16 February, between 5pm and 8pm, and was led by the Maybury Safer Neighbourhood Team with support from the wider Woking team.
The location had been highlighted by local residents who had voiced concerns about speeding motorists and anti-social driving.
A total of 15 vehicles were stopped with 13 motorists being given a Driver Alert - designed to re-educate drivers about their driving habits by showing them photographs of road traffic collisions. Two Fixed Penalty Notices were given for excessive speed and three HORT/1 forms were issued, requiring the driver to produce their documents at a police station.
PC Gobinder Saini from the Maybury Team said: "Drive Smart is about getting the message across to those who commit driving offences and put themselves and other road users at risk. Local residents had highlighted anti-social driving as an area they would like police to focus on at a recent panel meeting, so we organised the Drive SMART operation in response to their concerns."
Drive SMART is a joint initiative with Surrey County Council and targets a range of driving behaviours that negatively affect the lives of other road users or local residents. These include tailgating, bad or inconsiderate parking, using a handheld mobile phone at the wheel, speeding, drink and drug driving, not wearing a seatbelt and generally thoughtless or reckless driving.
