Man dead after being hit by train at Woking rail station

A MAN has died after being hit by a train at Woking rail station.

He was struck by the 9.39am London Waterloo to Woking service shortly after 10am and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Passengers are experiencing delays and disruptions, with emergency services still at the scene.

A British Transport Police (BTP) spokesperson said: "I can confirm that BTP officers attended Woking rail station on Monday October 1 following a report of a man being hit by a train.

"The incident was reported to BTP at 10.04am and is currently being treated as non-suspicious.

"Officers from Surrey Police also attended alongside paramedics from South East Coast Ambulance Service, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

"Enquiries are ongoing to establish the identity of the man and inform his family.

"The train involved was the 9.39am London Waterloo to Woking service."

A file will be prepared for the coroner.

Meanwhile all routes through Woking have been affected with delays of up to 60 minutes.

National Rail has not yet said when normal services will resume. South West Trains services are being diverted and will not call between Esher and Woking.

Passengers are being told to use First Great Western trains "on any reasonable route."
