WHEELED bins for garden waste collections are set to be rolled out to 6,500 more homes in Woking.
Woking Borough Council (WBC) has decided to extend the paid-for scheme to new subscribers after it said it experienced increasing demand for the service.
For a £40 annual fee - or £21 for residents on means-tested benefits - households will receive a loaned green wheeled bin which are emptied once a fortnight.
WBC originally capped the service to 12,000 homes but said its 'opt in', paid-for kerbside collection service has maintained a waiting list of nearly 800 residents.
Cllr Beryl Hunwicks, Woking Borough Council's portfolio holder for waste and recycling, said: "The garden waste collection scheme is really good value for money – a full subscription which costs £40 works out at just £1.60 per collection. By charging separately for this scheme, the cost of providing the service is met by the actual users of the collection service, rather than all Council Taxpayers, some of which may not have gardens."
