A REVIEW of the failed merger between Ashford & St Peter's Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and Epsom Hospital will proceed at a coming Surrey County Council meeting.

Representatives of both hospitals will be among those speaking at the health scrutiny meeting, which starts at 10am on Thursday January 24 at County Hall in Kingston.

Epsom Hospital was to be joined with the north east Surrey hospitals after Epsom and St Helier Trust did not achieve foundation status.

But the plan was halted after opposers said it was financially unviable to allow Epsom Hospital to be merged with Ashford and St Peter's.

The Epsom and St Helier Trust has racked up a massive debt dating from when the two were merged in 1999.

A five-year plan for Epsom Hospital to break-even failed and on October 25 NHS London announced the proposed merger with Epsom Hospital and Ashford and St Peter's Hospitals should be halted.
