the new women's networking organisation that welcomes men and the Federation of
Small Businesses (FSB) have raised £500 for Breakthrough Breast Cancer at a
fundraising evening, attended by the Mayor of Woking,
at Pine Ridge Golf Course.
Jane Hardy, regional
director, Fabulous Women and organiser of the event with her colleague Fiona Hampshire,
said "We were delighted so many people supported this worthy cause and we were
so lucky with the weather! With the scaling back or closure of government
services like Business Link, organisations like Fabulous Women and FSB are even
more essential in creating a health and vibrant small business sector. Events
like this mean we can provide a forum for business owners to extend their
networks, showcase their skills and we can raise much needed funds for a cause
many of us care deeply about – Breakthrough Breast Cancer."
Cllr Ann Roberts, Mayor of
Woking, said "I am delighted to be here and want to congratulate all the
stallholders who run their own businesses working from home and on the Internet
and offer such a variety of services. That's very positive. Breakthrough Breast
Cancer is the major reason we are here. One in eight people contract the
disease and up to 1,000 people die of cancer every month. Fewer people will die
through the research being done by this charity. We must raise its profile and
that's what this important evening is doing."
Over 100 people attended this
business networking event, where there were stalls run by Fabulous Women
members selling everything from skin care, celebration cards and jewellery.
Therapists were offering 'taster' sessions and Belinda James, photographer,
took portraits. A barbecue was held and while people enjoyed the sunny evening,
singer Steve Conway performed 'Rat
Park' songs and magician
Ian Gray wowed people with his tricks. A fundraising raffle was also held.
