Surrey Police is appealing for information after the body of a man was found lying by the side of a canal in Woking on Friday afternoon (November 18).

Officers have still not managed to identify the man, who is believed to have collapsed and died whilst out jogging along the towpath in Robin Hood Road some time before 2-50pm.

The man is described as white and suntanned, approximately 6ft tall, aged late 40s to early 50s, stocky to medium build, and was clean-shaven with short dark brown hair. He had green or grey eyes and a healed-up piercing in his left ear. He was wearing dark grey, thigh-length shorts with black edging on the pockets, an XXL plain white short-sleeved tee-shirt, a thin royal blue North Face fleece and size 12 blue Salomon Speed Cross 2 training shoes. He was carrying black-rimmed reading glasses and a set of keys.

Detective Inspector Becky Molyneux said: "I would like to reassure people that there is no suggestion of any crime involved in this incident. Initial reports suggest that he was out running and collapsed and died.

"However, we have still not managed to identify this man despite extensive enquiries and are hoping someone will come forward and tell us who he is. It may be that you are a friend or relative and haven't heard from him in a while or that a colleague has failed to turn up for work this morning and they may match this description. Any information, no matter how small, would assist us at this stage."

If you can help, please contact Woking CID at Surrey Police on 101, quoting incident number P11341727 or WK/11/7865.

The man who was found has now been identified and it is reported he was a very much loved teacher from The Royal Grammar School in Guildford. His family have been informed and our thoughts go out to them
